Man loses consciousness, hospitalized after diving into Lake Mendota

One man was taken to the hospital Sunday afternoon after he lost consciousness in Lake Mendota.

The man dove from a pontoon boat and stayed under the water for about a minute before floating back up unconscious, Madison firefighters said in a report Monday.

People on the pontoon managed to pull the man back aboard. He regained consciousness after chest compressions.

Dane County deputies responded at 1:18 p.m. and got the man aboard their boat. Authorities took him to the Memorial Union pier in Madison where the man was able to walk to an ambulance.

The man could not remember everything that lead up to his rescue when asked by paramedics. It is not known why he lost consciousness.
