Metcalfe's returns Fairlife products to shelves

MADISON (WKOW) –Metcalfe’s says it will return Fairlife products to its shelves, following a brief suspension of sales amid allegations of animal abuse taking place at Fairlife’s primary dairy supplier.

On Wednesday, Metcalfe’s announced it was removing all Fairlife products from store shelvesafter a disturbing video surfaced depicting animal abuse at Fairlife’s flagship supplier, Fair Oaks Farms.

In a statement released Thursday, Fairlife said it had taken “immediate action to address the situation,” including a suspension of milk deliveries from Fair Oaks Farms until new assurances are in place.

After reviewing the video, Fair Oaks Farms identified four employees committing animal cruelty, according to astatementfrom founder Mike McCloskey. He says all have been terminated.

“We are deeply disappointed by the actions in the video, and our leadership team has reviewed the allegations and response statements made by all parties involved,” Metcalfe’s wrote in a Facebook post Friday. “We appreciate the swift response from Fair Oaks and believe their plans for evaluation and steps for corrective action will create an environment where animals are treated humanely. By the end of the day today, Fairlife products will return to the shelves in all Metcalfe’s stores.”

Additional information regarding corrective actions in place can be foundhere.
