Passenger of alleged drunken driver killed in Rock Co head-on crash

JANESVILLE (WKOW) — A 33-year-old Janesville man is dead after a head-on collision involving an alleged drunk driver, according to the Rock County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriffs officials say just before 9:20 p.m. on Saturday, deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 14 North of East County Highway MM. They say, Thomas Bluhm of Janesville, was driving a Ford Mustang southbound on Highway 14 when he was trying to pass another vehicle. While Bluhm was driving southbound in the northbound lane, he collided head-on with a Buick Encore.

The 33-year-old victim, who was a passenger in Bluhm’s Mustang, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities say Bluhm showed signs of impairment and was arrested for Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Vehicle, 2nd Offense OWI Causing Injury and 2nd Offense OWI. The driver of the Encore had minor injuries and was transported to the hospital and eventually released.

The crash shut down Highway 14 for about five hours while the Rock County Recon Team completed their investigation.
