MADISON (WKOW) --Nearly 7,500 people are taking part in the University of Wisconsin-Madison's 2018 spring commencement ceremonies this weekend.
School officials say a little over 900 people have taken part in ceremonies Friday night for doctoral, MFA and medical students. Honorary degrees were also presented to atmospheric scientist David Fahey, diplomat Linda Thomas-Greenfield and businessman and philanthropist Jerome Chazen.
Undergraduate, law and master's students from all schools and colleges will graduate at noon Saturday at Camp Randall Stadium.
The Saturday commencement speaker is Emmy Award-winning journalist David Muir, anchor of America’s most-watched newscast, “ABC World News Tonight with David Muir.” Due to his tight travel schedule, he will not be available for media interviews.
Saturday's ceremony will run approximately 75 minutes and will be streamed live on commencement.wisc.edu and on the UW–Madison Facebook page.
UW-Madison administrators also say the ceremony will take place rain or shine, because it's not possible to re-schedule the ceremony to another date. The activities may be The ceremony is scheduled to take place rain or shine. Given the size of the gathering, it’s not feasible to move the ceremony to an alternate date. IF it does rain, you will NOT be allowed to take umbrellas into Camp Randall Stadium, they'll be confiscated at the metal detectors.
