Brittany Zimmermann's parents drop federal lawsuit
It was against Dane County and a dispatcher at the 911 Center

The parents of Brittany Zimmermann have dropped their federal civil rights lawsuit against Dane County and the 911 dispatcher who took the call from Zimmermann's cell phone the day she was killed.

The move comes a month after county attorneys moved to dismiss the case.  They had claimed the lawsuit had no grounds because county leaders have no duty under the U.S. Constitution to protect individuals against the acts of others.

Zimmermann's parents have said the dispatcher mishandled the call.

Zimmermann's parents can still bring legal action in state court.  They have not indicated whether they will pursue such action.

Zimmermann's killer is still at large.  Police have not announced any details about a potential suspect.  She was killed April 2 inside her apartment on W. Doty St. in Madison.
