Charter Communications, BTN reach deal
Wednesday 08-27-2008 11:38am CT
(From The Associated Press)

Charter Communications and the Big Ten Network said Wednesday they've reached a distribution agreement.

The multiyear deal allows the St. Louis-based cable company to carry the network's programming throughout Big Ten territory, including systems in Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Northern Illinois.

Charter spokesman John Miller says the network will be included in Charter's expanded basic level of service for the upcoming Big Ten sports season. After that, Miller says the company will re-evaluate the best place for the channel.

It's uncertain whether the agreement will be completed in time for Charter to carry Saturday's telecast of Wisconsin's football opener against Akron at Camp Randall.

Philadelphia Eagles put Jack Ikegwuonu on reserve/non-football injury list
Wednesday 08-27-2008 12:06am CT
(From The Associated Press)

The Philadelphia Eagles have placed cornerback Jack Ikegwuonu on the reserve/non-football injury list.

Ikegwuonu was a fourth-round draft pick out of Wisconsin and is rehabilitating a knee injury he sustained while preparing for the NFL combine.

He will be eligible to return to practice with the team between the sixth and ninth weeks of the season.

Most of Wisconsin will be able to see the Badgers this fall on cable.

Now it appears that Charter Communications, which services Madison, is close to an agreement with the Big Ten Network, too.

A Charter spokesman tells News/Talk 1310 WIBA that they are in active negotiations and very optimistic that a deal will be done soon.

TWC and BTN strike deal
Tuesday 08-26-2008 1:01pm CT

Much of Wisconsin will be able to see the Badgers this fall on cable.

But not fans in their hometown.

The Big Ten Network and Time Warner Cable announced Monday that the network would be included in Time Warner's expanded basic cable service starting this weekend. That makes the Big Ten Network - and the Badgers' Saturday opener against Akron - available in southeastern Wisconsin on Channel 63 and in northern Wisconsin on Channel 72.

But Wisconsin's other major cable provider, Charter Communications, still doesn't have a deal with the Big Ten Network. That means viewers in Madison and other areas covered by Charter won't get the games.

The Big Ten Network launched last year and is now available to an estimated 55 million households on cable and satellite television services.
