MPD searching for answers after forced entry, apartment fire

MADISON (WKOW) — Authorities are investigating a fire that happened at an apartment on Madison’s north side.

Police said at about 9:40 p.m. two men forced their way into an apartment in the 1300 block of Ruskin Street. The victim inside the apartment locked themselves in a bathroom. A short time later the victim smelled smoke and climbed through a bathroom window to escape.

The apartment was damaged by fire and smoke. The Red Cross is helping the displaced residents.

No one was hurt.
