City council members in Madison express concern over Furseth hiring

MADISON (WKOW) — Members of Madison’s Common Council are asking the Town of Madison to reconsider its hiring of the former DeForest police chief, Daniel Furseth.

Furseth resigned from DeForest in August after a YouTube video showed him mocking a group of African-American men. He was recently hired by the Town of Madison Police Department.

The town’s police chief said Furseth deserved a second chance.

Members of the Madison Common Council sent a letter to the town police chief, board chair and Police and Fire Commission chair, expressing their concern particularly because the town will soon be absorbed by the city. Alders asked town leaders to take a second look at Furseth’s hiring and rescind the offer.
