Woman accused of stealing designer sunglasses arrested

A woman wanted as a suspect in the theft of nearly $1,000 in glasses from a Madison mall was caught after her car ran out of gas in Columbia County.

Allison R. Gilles, 20, Poynette, faces a charge of felony retail theft.

Police were investigating a report of a retail theft July 29 at the LensCrafters in West Towne Mall of nearly $1,000 in designer sunglasses.

Store employees told police that a woman was acting strangely, and was was paying close attention to the movements of the sales clerk. 

The woman, later identified as Allison R. Gilles, left the store with a host of sunglasses, and when confronted by the store manager, brazenly decided to disregard them altogether, according to police

Then on Aug. 2, a Columbia County Sheriff deputy was checking on a vehicle driven by Gilles. 

Deputies determined that Gilles was connected to the felony theft case, and alerted the Madison Police Department. 

Madison officers coordinated with the Columbia County Sheriff Department, and the arrest and transport were eventually made. Gilles was booked into the Dane County Jail on the felony retail theft charge.
