NWS ranks tornado in Columbia County as EF-0

UPDATE (WKOW) - National Weather Service (NWS) officials were near Poynette Sunday morning surveying damage from a tornado that touched down Saturday at 5:20 pm in a field near Highway B and Dunning Road.

The NWS says the tornado was an EF-0, the weakest possible ranking, with estimated peak winds of 65 mph and a maximum width of 50 yards. It was nearly stationary, only traveling 0.1 miles, and dissipated after being on the ground for two minutes. No one was injured.

The tornado was associated with a long-lived storm that stayed over Columbia County for around three hours Saturday afternoon. There were multiple reports of trees falling and downed power lines through Portage, Poynette and the Rio areas. Large hail was also reported, as big as golf ball-size near Poynette.
