A Madison woman had a knife put to her throat during a mugging on Madison's North Side early Tuesday, and officers found and arrested three young suspects several hours after the attack, police reported.
Lee Scott III, 18, of Madison, a 13-year-old girl from Madison and a 16-year-old boy from Sun Prairie were tentatively charged with being party to the crime of armed robbery, the Madison Police Department stated in a news release.
Police learned of the attack when the 53-year-old woman flagged down a passing car on Northport Drive shortly before 2 a.m.
"The terrified victim said a group of young people rushed her and the female held a knife to her throat," said police spokesman Joel DeSpain.
According to police:
The attackers demanded money, and the victim said one of the male suspects pointed a gun at her.
"She went to the ground and tried to protect herself, while she was kicked and punched," DeSpain said.
When the victim ran into the street to an approaching car, the suspects fled the scene, taking her purse.
Police found the suspects near a gas station a couple hours later.
"The suspects had electronics and other items in their possession, believed to have been stolen from parked cars," DeSpain said.
The mugging victim's purse was found and the contents recovered.
DeSpain said more suspects could be arrested.
